DAWNA LEE

Dawna Lee began her writing and singing career at the age of 15. Inspired by Artists such as Bob Andy, Bunny Wailer, Freddie Mcgregor, and Marcia Griffiths, she taught herself to play Bass, by playing along to records taken from her brothers 'Jah Youth Sound Box'.

She then went on to form a band with five other school friends, becoming the guitarist and lead singer. Playing gigs around the country they became popular as the young all Female Reggae band EQUITY.

Once the band disbanded, Dawna began working on her solo career. Being able to play as well as write she self produced an albums worth of material, at the same time she was also building rhythm tracks for other female artists and the 'all female sound system 'Gold Label'.

Her First release came out of the Progressive Sounds Camp entitled 6 am. A dance hall lovers tune which became hugely popular. Once obtaining the award for Best British Newcomer 1994/'95 at the Annual British Reggae Awards she then went on to record an albums worth of material with producer Patrick Donnegan, appearing at stage shows alongside Shinehead, Freddie Mcgreggor and Half Pint.

Other Releases include The Bubbling dance hall tune 'Are You Ready?, 'Goldmine', Melody Life, 'Wanna Be Down' (A Brandy Cover) and more recently the Luciano style dancehall lovers tune 'Teach The Children'.

Being Likened to Artists Such as Marcia Griffiths, and other leading Jamaican Singers, Dawna then went on to record for South London's Saxon Records, a A/A sided tune, entitled don't give up! .'Smile awhile', also giving people a glimpse of her reality material.

Also recording for the Bromley Based Mad Simpson Label, who produced the 'chart hit'" I'm Gonna Live Love". Dawna has now moved a further step up the ladder.

With a steady stream of quality material now being released on Mykey Simpson's MCS Records such as 'Live Good', 'Can I get a Witness?' and Two Albums now Released , Dawna Lee is definitely one of the most original & leading Female Reggae singers we have Witnessed in a long long time.
